Poets do not seek admiration

Morning all!
The weekend continues and so do the quotes; hope you enjoy this one-
“The poet never asks for admiration; he wants to be believed.”
This is something very close to my heart and a topic I’ve discussed with several of you in conversation before.
I truly believe that poetry is not about elevating the poet but instead about elevating the reader through a shared connection in words. Helping them to better cope with and understand a given situation through the recognition that someone else has been there before and made it to the other side.
With this, poetry is never about the poet but the feelings instead. We are simply the conduit to put those feelings to paper.
Would you agree?
